Department of Outpatient Therapy and Family Medicine with a course of post-graduate education

The Department of Outpatient Therapy was founded as an independent structural unit in 1990, which was organized and headed by Candidate of Medical Science Sergey V. Klemenkov, Doctor of Medical Science, Professor, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation. In 1992-2005 he held the position of Vice Rector for Research.

In 2003 during the reorganization of Krasnoyarsk State Medical Academy a new Department of Outpatient Therapy and Family Medicine with a course of post-graduate education was formed. The head of the department is Doctor of Medical Science, Professor, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation Marina M. Petrova. She is a student of Doctor of Medical Science, Professor Vera A. Opaleva-Stegantseva).

The Structure of the Department

Currently 4 professors, 8 associate professors, and 3 assistants work at the department. Most of the Department members are candidates of science (PhDs) or postdoctorates.

The department provides classes in “Outpatient Therapy” for 5th and 6th year students of the Faculty of General Medicine as well as classes in “Introduction to Internal Medicine Clinical Practice” for 3rd and 4th year Pharmacy students.

Budget-funded advanced development courses in general medical practice (family medicine) has been conducted since 2004. Currently, postgraduate training is provided in the following courses: "Preventive care at the population level. Healthy lifestyle promotion", "Geriatrics", "Emergency care in ambulance practice", "Methods of smoking cessation assistance", "Modern principles of outpatient care", and "Prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases".

Methodological and research work of the Department

The staff of the department developed 31 educational syllabi, more than 100 multimedia-lectures, including 12 video-lectures. For the last 5 years 4 manuals have been approved by the Russian Clinical Medicine Coordination Council as training manuals for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.

The scientific work of the department is carried out on a comprehensive scientific topic within the framework of the priority scientific area "Cardiology." Over the past 5 years 4 doctoral and 5 candidate (PhD) theses were defended, 9 monographs, 176 articles in journals of the Higher Attestation Commission Register and in journals included into WoS and Scopus international databases, were published, 6 patents for inventions were obtained under the leadership of the department head.

The department staff participated in a large multicenter study “Epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases in different regions of Russia (ESSE-RF)” and assessed epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases and their risk factors in Krasnoyarsk Territory.

From 2015 till 2018, the state assignment was fulfilled on the topic "Creating a set of programs for rehabilitation of cognitive functions in chronic cardiovascular pathology and type 2 diabetes mellitus" together with Professor Semen V. Prokopenko.
