HISTORY:

The Department of Pathological Physiology was established in 1942. It traces its history from the foundation of the University. In 1982, the Department was headed by Professor V.V. Ivanov, who was the founder of international cooperation at the University. Valeriy Vasilevich was an expert of the World Health Organization.

COMPETENCES:

Pathological physiology is a link between theoretical medicine and clinical practice, so high quality of educational process is very important at the Department. The teaching staff is constantly improving the methods of teaching, trying to ensure a close relationship of the studied material and the knowledge necessary for clinical work. We constantly update the teaching material used in the classroom, responding to the changing demands of clinical medicine.

THE SCOPE OF SCIENTIFIC AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES:

We implement all our tasks through joint efforts of scientific and pedagogical resource of the Department and successful collaboration with colleagues from Tomsk National Research Medical Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and N.N. Blokhin National Medical Research Center of the RF Ministry of Health, investigating the main issues of pathogenesis, prognosis and early diagnosis of melanoma, Federal Research Center "Krasnoyarsk Science Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences", and Scientific Research Institute of Medical Problems of the North.

The Department of Pathological Physiology trains students of specialties: "General Medicine", "Pediatrics", "Dentistry", "Medical Cybernetics", and "Pharmacy".

The scientific and pedagogical goals of the Department include:

-The formation of understanding the pathological basis and pathogenetic mechanisms of diseases;

-Providing new information and explaining the importance of early introduction of new diagnostic methods, new medical technologies and approaches to the treatment of diseases;

-Providing an opportunity to combine training and research.

The scientific work of the Department includes searching for modern approaches to the detection and personalized therapy of melanoma; studies of changes in microRNA levels under the influence of anticancer agents; studies of the effect of microRNA on the proliferation of melanoma cells; investigation of the role of epigenetic mechanisms in the dynamics of melanoma development.

A number of employees at the Department carry out the duties of curators of student groups. A student scientific society and a poetry club function on the basis of the Department.

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

The staff of the Department regularly takes part in the events organized by the European Society of Experimental Dermatology and the European Society of Dermato-Oncology.
