The Department of Hygiene was organized on the basis of the sanitary-hygienic department of the Leningrad Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology in November 1942.

The Head of the Department is Candidates of Medical Science Olga Yu. Shik

The personnel structure of the department comprises 6 Candidates of Medical Science, 4 assistants and 1 computer lab administrator.

The purpose of training at the Department of Hygiene is:

ensuring the ability of students to use the fundamentals of economic and legal knowledge in professional activities, knowing the legal norms that ensure sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population, being able to identify the conformity (mismatch) of indicators of environmental factors with the sanitary and epidemiological standards and hygiene standards, assess the consequences of violations of hygiene standards and rules for human health and determine measures to prevent the harmful effects of environmental factors; knowing the skills of orientation in the current regulatory legal acts that establish sanitary and epidemiological requirements for factors of the human environment and the methodology for hygienic assessment of the human environment;

ensuring students' readiness to use the basic physicochemical, mathematical and other natural science concepts and methods in solving professional problems, knowing methods for solving typical mathematical problems and concepts in the field of physiology, microbiology, physics and chemistry, being able to calculate, solve simple differential equations and interpret values of environmental factors, possessing the skills to establish causal relationships between environmental factors and public health.

The main scientific problems of the department are the study of the influence of environmental factors on the health of the population at the regional level. Work is carried out in the following areas:

-hygienic aspects of the district layout;

-the study of the sources of preserving and strengthening the health of children of preschool and school institutions, students of primary vocational education institutions;

-hygienic aspects of the environment and health of the population of the Krasnoyarsk territory.
