Department of Hospital Therapy and Immunology with a postgraduate course

The Department of Hospital Therapy and Immunology with a postgraduate course (formerly – the Department of Hospital Therapy No. 2 with a postgraduate course) at the Krasnoyarsk State Medical University was established at the time of the university’s foundation in 1942.

The head of the Department is Doctor of Medical Science, Professor Irina V. Demko. The Department and the Pulmonology and Allergology Centre provided the basis for the Education Research Center “Pulmonology”.

I.V. Demko is the scientific advisor at the Regional Pulmonology and Allergology Center, Pulmonology centers at Regional Hospitals No. 42 and No. 51 of the FMBA of Russia as well as the national expert in pulmonology.

Apart from that, I.V. Demko is the Chief Pulmonologist and Allergologist of the Krasnoyarsk Region and the Chief Pulmonology Therapist and Allergologist of the Siberian Federal District. Since 2012, she is the Head of the Krasnoyarsk branch of the Russian Respiratory Society.

Annually, the Department provides postgraduate training for clinical residents.

The educational process is carried out by experienced assistants, associate professors and professors of different generations, by Candidates (PhDs) and Doctors of Medical Science.

Associate professors and teaching assistants of the Department perform both consulting and treatment work in departments of the Regional Clinical Hospital, prevention and treatment facilities of the city and the region, give lectures for resident physicians.

Disciplines taught and the Department of Hospital Therapy and Immunology with a postgraduate course:

“Intermediate level therapy, work-related diseases” – 4th year at the Faculty of General Medicine,

“Hospital therapy, endocrinology” – 5th and 6th years at the Faculty of General Medicine,

“Functional diagnostics and prevention of cardiovascular accidents and bronchopulmonary pathology” – 6th year at the Faculty of General Medicine,

“Emergencies in therapy and endocrinology” – 6th year at the Faculty of General Medicine,

“Advanced therapy” – 6th year at the Faculty of General Medicine,

“Immunology” – 3rd and 5th years at the Faculty of General Medicine, the 5th year in the “Medical Cybernetics” specialty, 3rd and 6th years in the “Paediatrics” specialty,

“Immunology – clinical immunology” – 2nd and 5th years in the “Dentistry” specialty.

Modern pedagogical techniques, visual aids, illustrated materials, information technology are used in the training process. Significant attention is devoted to acquisition of practical skills by students, usage of active forms of studying: role-playing games, case studies.

The Department facilities and resources include a mannequin for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, an auscultation mannequin, an apparatus for measurement of NO, an apparatus for measurement of CO, nebulisers, electrocardiographs, spirographs, peak flow meters, HM devices, devices for arterial stiffness measurement.

The Department of Hospital Therapy and Immunology conducts scientific research in the following areas:

  • “Aptamers in diagnostics and treatment of chronic leucosis”;
  • “Factors affecting IHD development in bronchial asthma patients ”
  • “Optimization of occupational pathology service and peculiarities in structure and clinical progression of main occupational diseases in the Krasnoyarsk Territory”.

The associates of the Department cooperate with clinicians of the Regional Clinical Hospital. They participate in organisation of scientific and scientific-pedagogical events annually.

Under guidance of the department associates, students, resident physicians and young scientists head the list of the winners of competitions for young scientists.

Associates of the Department are winners of named awards. They report at international congresses every year. They have large experience in participation in clinical trials at stages II, III and IV.

Over past years, the Department carries out active grant policy that has made it possible to fund scientific projects with the total cost of over 4 mln rubles.

Inventor’s certificates over intellectual activity have been obtained.

At the present time, the staff of the Department consists of 5 Doctors of Medical Science, 13 Candidates of Medical Science, 4 Professors, 10 Associate Professors, 8 assistants, 1 laboratory technician, 18 clinical residents, and 4 postgraduate students.
